DUBAI, UAE: Authorities in Dubai have introduced an online system for issuing exit permits to illegal residents whose visas or work permits have expired. The initiative aims to facilitate their smooth return to their home countries without penalties, provided they leave the UAE by December 31, 2024.

How to Apply for the Exit Permit: Illegal residents or their employers can apply for the exit permit via the UAE Pass digital portal by selecting the “Exit Permit” option (تصریح المغادرہ). After submitting the required details and paying the applicable fee, the automated system will process the application. Approved permits will be sent via email.

Key points to note:

The validity of the exit permit is 14 days.

Applicants are encouraged to leave the country within this timeframe to avoid legal consequences.

Permits can also be obtained via the Smart App.

Subheading: Deadline and Penalties

The Dubai Immigration and Passport Authority has provided a grace period until December 31, 2024, for individuals to either regularize their status or leave the country. After this deadline, violators will face legal repercussions, including fines or imprisonment.

Legal Pathways and Exemptions: During the grace period, residents leaving the UAE will not face fines or penalties for overstaying. Authorities emphasize the importance of taking advantage of this amnesty to resolve legal issues or exit the country smoothly. This initiative reflects the UAE's commitment to offering a fair opportunity for illegal residents to either comply with immigration laws or return to their home countries without undue hardship.
